Welcome to Riyuu, a blog on healthy food and nutrition, fitness and sports, travel, design and how these joys of life can be combined. The blog’s name comes from Japanese, and it means ‘motive’ and ‘reason’. You will probably notice enormous influence of both japanese and french cultures here, especially on my cooking. My recipes are vegetarian, often vegan and gluten free and (hopefully) always good for you. If you are into sports and fitness, or you have just decided to start working out, I am sure you will find the recipes on this blog immensely useful and helpful. I always try to use wholesome, locally sourced top notch ingredients that I use in my recipes, as much as possible.
I’m Vla, a designer from London by day and night, along with being an amateur triathlete, yogi, cook, calligrapher and an avid traveller. So I certainly hope that I shall have something interesting to share on here apart from pretty photos and recipes. I studied Nutrition so there will be plenty of useful stuff on the benefits of all these recipes and the power of healthy food.
I grew up in Serbia and I am a Lala (someone who is from the north of the country, Vojvodina region) so I have always been a foodie. I have learned to love, appreciate and be grateful for food from my mum and my nanny, whose food and recipes I’ll be mentioning every now and again. I also learned to cook from them. But I haven’t always been into sports. On the contrary – I wasn’t allowed to do any sports, not even PE in school due to a heart condition. But as I was obviously quite keen, at some point I decided to change that and start training all guns blazing. It was life changing. And a proof that anything is possible, if you are eager.
I’m lucky enough to live in London and be able to travel a fair bit, explore the vast beauties and cultures of the world, their customs and foods, bring that back and share it through stories and food. I won’t bore with a long About page, you will get to know me through the recipes and stories on here, as every recipe tells a story or at least is based on one. The stories are mostly mine and sometimes of/ about people very dear to me.
So welcome to my sharing stories. Now let’s cook. And train.
